About the Show
Investigating Angel is a review of the themes, story arcs and character developments of the Angel series. We talk in depth about the show and hopefully shed some light in the dark corners to make you watch and think about the Angel series in a new way.
The Investigating Angel podcast is part of Hellmouth Empire Productions, a family of podcasts covering the entire Whedonverse. After a year and a half of covering the first three seasons of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series; Hellmouth Empire Productions is pleased to announce the launch of the Investigating Angel podcast to coincide with Season 4 of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast – the Hellmouth Podcast
Hellmouth Empire Crew:
Bryan
host/writer/webmaster/co-dictator of the Hellmouth Empire
I host the weekly podcast with Angie that covers the episode reviews of the Buffy and Angel series. My goal is to provide an in depth analysis of the episodes and show them in a new light that leads to interesting discussions about a show that we all know and love. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, sometimes I just get weird and way too personal. In the end it is usually a good time, for me anyway…

I did not watch Buffy during its first run. WB shows seemed “beneath me” somehow (because I only watched high-brow stuff like Beavis and Butthead and The Real World (before it went all soft-core porn)). I began watching Buffy in reruns during a summer off from teaching. I forgot about it when I got married and had kids. I rediscovered Buffy and watched a Season 4 episode. I had no idea who Tara was, why Willow was gay, how Spike became less evil, etc., and decided to watch the show from the beginning. I love it and have now seen Angel as well. The show lets me escape from my life, and the fan community I discovered when I found the Hellmouth Podcast on iTunes makes me feel connected to people who share my passion for the show and its characters.
Missy
Missy produces a podcast segment for all of the Hellmouth Empire podcasts titled “Missy’s Fun Facts From Down Under”. There is trivia, there is behind-the-scenes info., and then there is Missy’s Fun Facts. If you thought you knew everything there was to know about Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, you have only scratched the surface.
I was 8, maybe 9, and I caught Season 1 Episode 3 ‘Witch’ on TV one night in late 1997. I missed a few episodes after that and somehow found it again in early Season 2. I watched it on and off until Becoming, that two-part episode was definitely what made me come back for the next season. When Season 3 started, I was hooked and never missed an episode after that.
Somewhere between Season 2 and Season 4 I managed to catch the episodes I had missed (reruns I guess… to this day I still don’t know how that happened). That was the start of my forray into Joss’ world.
Bob
While Bob may not regularly share the spotlight in the bright lights of the podcast, his role within the Hellmouth Empire is invaluable. As editor/ producer/ and technical consultant, Bob works his magic every week to make sure that Angie and Bryan have some semblance of coherent thought; a task not easily accomplished.
I had seen the movie and thought Buffy The Vampire Slayer was an intriguing title and thought it was an OK campy B movie, nothing special. Since TV shows are always worse then the movies they are based on, I had no interest in watching. Later, around season 4, my nephew was living with me for a few weeks, and he watched a number of TV shows I didn’t, including Buffy. A few episodes were more than enough to get me hooked, and I went back and got the previous seasons’ DVDs to catch up. Then I watched the last three seasons live, then Angel, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, Serenity, Dollhouse, etc. While I liked them all, Buffy has always been my favorite. My wife and I, try to pass the obsession onto others at every opportunity.
I play a few Joss Whedon related songs on guitar – the Buffy theme, Standing from Once More with Feeling, and The Hero of Canton from Firefly.
